TONGASS TIPS
Stay bear aware:
Make noise as you hike
Bring bear spray
Keep your eyes open for fresh scat and strong odors.
If you see a bear, don’t spook it! Stay calm and back away.
Dress properly
Proper rain gear is a must
On sunny days, don’t underestimate the power of the sun even on chillier days
Make sure your baby gear has a rain cover, sun shield, and extra warmth.
Mindful Explorer
Some trails can be long, so make sure you read a map and know when to turn back
Beaches are safe and great to explore, but stay mindful that they are rocky, slippery and full of barnacles.
